How can you live lightly, be eco-friendly and environmentally responsible, while saving money at the same time? It’s easier than you think. So in honor of Earth Day, we would like to share some ideas on how you can go green, save green and live an overall brighter life.
Keep It Light
Solatube Daylighting Systems are a great, environmentally friendly way to bring pure, natural light into your home. They’re easy and affordable to install in almost any room – and you’ll be amazed at the dramatic difference they make in dark rooms or gloomy hallways. Equally important, Solatube Daylighting Systems allow you to switch off interior lights during the day, save money on electric bills and reduce your carbon footprint.
The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) recently launched their official REGREEN standard, a set of guidelines to help homeowners make eco-friendly choices for their residential remodeling projects.
“Consumers overwhelmingly want greener homes, and the REGREEN Guidelines will help by showing them how,” says Michelle Moore, senior vice president of the USGBC. “Surveys show that not having enough good information from trusted sources has been a huge obstacle. The REGREEN Guidelines empower people with practical information about how to green projects ranging from kitchen and bath renovations to deep energy upgrades.”
Although REGREEN does not endorse specific products or manufacturers, they do include systems like Solatube Daylighting as a product with environmentally friendly attributes. To access these enlightening guidelines, visit the official Green Home Guide and REGREEN Web sites.
If you’re a fan of HGTV, you’ve probably seen the hit show Living with Ed, which chronicles the life of actor Ed Begley, Jr. and his mission to live in a completely environmentally-friendly way.
